GUI Mode

The usage of VMoveCAD is to translate native CAD model into a CAX as well as CGR files. This tutorial describes the procedure that is involved in the translation.

1. Go to Start | Programs | VCollab | VMoveCAD 2017 (64-bit) and click VMoveCAD 2017 (64-bit). It launches the application as follows

   

2. Click File option.

3. Select the Input CAD File

4. Select the Output File. By default, VMoveCAD writes the CAX / CGR file into the input directory.

5. Select the Tessellation Tolerance type from the list. It decides which criteria control the tessellation and influences the model quality as well as CAX file size.

   • Linear (default) applies only the linear (sag) tolerance, i.e. the maximum distance allowed between a triangle and the exact surface. The Linear Tolerance field is shown, with a default value of 0.0005.

   • Angular applies only the angular tolerance, i.e. the maximum angle allowed between adjacent triangles. The Angle (degrees) field is shown, with a default value of 10.

   • Both applies the two criteria together. Both fields are shown, with default values of 0.01 and 30. The tessellator refines until each criterion is satisfied, so the finer one wins locally; hence the defaults for this type are looser than for a single criterion.

   Switching the type resets the fields to the defaults of that type.

6. Change the Linear Tolerance and / or Angle (degrees) values as required. Smaller values give a denser and more accurate mesh and a larger CAX file; larger values reduce the number of triangles and the file size. The linear tolerance must be greater than 0 and the angle must be between 0 and 180 degrees. These values have no effect on CAD files that carry their own tessellation (for example, CATIA V5 files), where the stored mesh is reused as is.

7. Shows the Units system of input CAD model. Once the input CAD model is selected, the actual unit of the CAD model is updated here. User is allowed to change the unit system.

8. Enable Ignore Transparency if transparency is not required.

9. Detailed Log lets the application to write more log information. Its unchecked by default. If the user gets some issue in translation, it is recommended to enable this option for the problematic file and translate it. This log file can be sent to support@vcollab.com for debugging purpose.

10. Click the Translate button to start the CAD to CAX / CGR conversion.

The following procedure explains about the directory mode conversion

1. Click Directory option. The GUI gets changed as follows

   

2. Select the Input Directory.

3. Select the Output Directory. By default, VMoveCAD writes all the converted CAX files into the input directory.

4. Select the Output File Type in the Format list. By default, the output file type is cax

5. Select the Tessellation Tolerance type (Linear, Angular or Both) and change the Linear Tolerance and / or Angle (degrees) values as required, as described in the file mode above. The same settings are applied to every CAD file in the input directory. They influence the model quality as well as CAX / CGR file size

6. User is allowed to change the Units system in CAX.

7. Enable Ignore Transparency if transparency is not required.
