System details needed for floating license file for Virtual machine with dynamic Host ID (Windows)

The regular floating license file with the host ID (Physical Address) will not work on a Virtual Machine with the dynamic Host ID as the host ID gets changed whenever the system is restarted. To overcome this issue, a UUID (Universally Unique IDentifier) can be generated using the ‘lmhostid’ utility on the virtual machine, and the license can be generated for this UUID instead of the host ID. To generate VM_UUID, follow the instructions below.

  • Install ‘VCollab Suite License Server’ installer

  • Open a command prompt

  • Move to the ‘VCollab Suite License Server’ folder. (The default installation location is ‘C:\Program Files\VCollab\VCollab Suite License Server’)

  • Run the following command

    • lmhostid -ptype VM -uuid

The item marked in red in the image below is the generated VM_UUID.

floating-vm-uuid

Note: The installer for VCollab Suite License Server can be downloaded from this link. Once it’s installed, the ‘lmhostid’ tool can be found in ‘C:\Program Files\VCollab\VCollab Suite License Server’ folder
