Import

VCollab users can import the following file types using the Import option:

Supported files and data

  • *.py (python script file to run set of commands)

  • *.csv (User defined result file )

  • *.vpt (Viewpoints file)

  • *.cax (Result data from cax file)

Importing Python script file

  1. Launch VCollabPro application.

  2. Click File | Import option.

  3. Under Files of Type, select Python Script Files (* .py).

  4. Select a python script file.

  5. Click Open to run the script.

Importing viewpoints

  1. Launch VCollabPro application.

  2. Load a CAX (*.cax) file

  3. Click File | Import option.

  4. Select Files of Type as VCollab Files (*.vpt) or VCollab Files (*.cax).

  5. Select a file.

  6. Click Open to import all view paths from the external file.

Importing CAE Results

VCollab Pro supports importing of external CAE results from CSV files. These results are added as new results or instances of existing results. VCollab Pro imports results only for the visible parts based on node or element numbers

Note

  • From VCollab Pro 19.0, CSV format is modified to support multiple instances and complex results. Old format is also supported.

  • Import CSV results may not work for features like cut section, iso-surface, etc.

  • Unsigned Integer result:

    • Supported from VCollab Pro version 26.2 onwards with limited functionalities

    • Supported functionalities: Color Plot, Hotspot and Probe

    • Unsupported: XYPlot, Create Result,Complex Eigen results,etc.

    • CAE Legend format should be as below in Auto format case, - scientific - Off - precision - 0

  • Any value less than 0 and greater than UINT_MAX-1 (2^32-1) will be treated as No Result.

  • Float Result:

    • By default VCollab Pro supports float type result values.

    • It supports upto FLT_MAX defined in the system. But there will be a dato loss beyond 2^24.

Result Types

Number of columns in the CSV file is based on the result type. For example, Vector result is expected to have 3 columns. Refer to the table below for the different result types and their corresponding number of columns.

OverWriting Result

When an imported CSV file contains result values for an existing result or instance name, VCollab prompts the user to choose whether to overwrite the existing result or skip the import. The application then performs the following actions based on the user's choice:

  • Yes (Overwrite): Existing result values are overwritten only for the node IDs present in the CSV file. Values associated with node IDs that are not included in the CSV file remain unchanged.

  • No (Do Not Overwrite): For each node ID in the CSV file, the application checks whether a result value already exists. If the existing value is NoResult, it is replaced with the value from the CSV file. Otherwise, the existing value is preserved, and the corresponding value from the CSV file is ignored.

Python API Support

VCollab Pro provides the following methods to export and import result instances.

  1. xImportCAEResult(String sFilePath,int iOverwrite=0);

  2. xImportCAEResultEx(String sFilePath, int iOverwrite = 0);

  3. xExportCAEResult(String sFilePath, String sResult, String sInstance, int iPrecision = 3, bool bScientific = false, bool bPrintCoords = false);

  4. xExportCAEResultEx(String sFilePath, String sResultList,String sInstance,int iPrecision,bool bScientific,bool bPrintCoords);

Steps to import CAE result files

  1. Launch VCollab Pro application.

  2. Load a CAX (*.cax) file

  3. Click File | Import option which opens a file browser dialog box

  4. Under Files of Type select Result Files (*.csv)

  5. Select a VCollab Pro supported CSV file.

  6. Click Open to import all CAE results.

  7. Check CAE | Results List for the result name / instance name.
