Viewpoints

This command helps to navigate the different views of model along with information provided by user. It also applies the different states stored with each viewpoint.  

Context Menu

Add ViewPoint Allows user to add current scene as viewpoint.
Next View Displays next viewpoint state.
Previous View Displays previous viewpoint state.
Standard Views Allows user to select a standard view Front, Rear,etc.
Play Plays Viewpoint Animation.
Stop Stops animation.
Pause Pauses animation
Loop Animation Animates continuously
Perspective Projection Enables perspective projection
Ortho projection Enables Ortho projection
Coordinate System Allows user to switch between XY, XZ and YZ coordinate system.
Import View Points Allows user to import viewpoints from either vpt or another cax file.
Export View Points Allows user to export viewpoint to vpt or ppt file.
Camera Settings... Allows user to modify camera attributes.

Coordinate System

XY X is horizontal axis and Y is vertical axis. Z axis should point towards viewer in front view.
XZ X is horizontal axis and Z is vertical axis. Y axis should point outwards viewer in front view.
YZ Y is horizontal axis and Z is vertical axis. X axis should point towards viewer in front view.

This option helps user to switch between these three systems.

How to view viewpoints states?

Click with the right most button in the Viewer Window, to pop up the Viewer Context menu and then follow the instructions as below.

  • Load any CAx model with CAE information.
  • Create and store viewpoint states in the list.
  • Select 'Viewpoint | Next' in context menu to view  next viewpoint state.
  • Select 'Viewpoint | Previous' in context menu to view  previous viewpoint state.
  • Select 'Play' to animate current view path.
  • Select 'Stop' to stop animation.

How to import and export viewpoints?

Click with the right most button in the Viewer Window, to pop up the Viewer Context menu and then follow the instructions as below.

  • Click Viewpoint | Import Viewpoints.
  • It pops up file browser dialog.
  • Select any .CAX file or .vpt files.
  • Click 'Open' to import viewpoints from the files.
  • Click 'Viewpoint | Export View Points...'
  • It pops up file browser dialog.
  • Enter a file name.
  • Click 'Save' to export viewpoints into a .vpt file.

 

Camera Settings Panel

Quaternion Toggles to Axis & Angle attributes.
Position Allows user to modify camera position coordinates.
Direction/Orientation Allows user to modify camera direction vector/ orientation axis and angle in case of quaternion option.
Up Vector Allows user to modify camera Up vector.
Vertical FOV This refers to camera 'Vertical Field of View' in case of Perspective.
Fit View If user is not sure about the model in scene after applying the modifications, this option helps to bring model into scene with same direction vector.
Refresh Click this option to update the current camera attributes to this dialog.
Apply Click to apply all the attributes to the camera.

Note:

  • Up vector should be perpendicular to Direction vector. If not, a projected vector of user given Up vector will be applied.
  • A new field, Angle, is displayed if Quaternion option is selected.

How to change camera attributes?

  • Enter camera position by x, y and z coordinates.
  • Enter Vertical FOV to change the field of view.
  • To change the camera orientation, there are two ways of modifying.

    Using Direction and Up vectors.

    • Provide direction and up vectors in the corresponding fields.

    Using Axis and Angle of camera orientation.

    • Check Quaternion option.

    • In the Orientation field, provide axis of rotation in first 3 x, y and z fields.

    • Provide angle of degrees in the last field, Angle.

  • Click Apply button.

  • Notice the change in camera view.

  • If user is not sure about model view, check 'Fit View' option which helps in viewing model in the scene with modified direction.

  • In case of Fit View, camera position may be different from user defined position.
