How to select and filter parts and results?

  1. Start VMoveCAE and Load CAE file: Start VMoveCAE and load a CAE file as described in the previous tutorial. In this tutorial, we use the d3plot file that is provided in the VMoveCAE samples directory.

  2. User can observe that each part in the part list and each result in the result list contain a check box left to its name. In the above diagram, all of these check boxes are checked. Clicking on one of the check boxes inverts it check status. VMoveCAE translates all these checked parts and results into CAX file. A part or a result can be filtered out by unchecking its corresponding check box.

  3. Select a result: Let us now, click on a result name. User can observe that the clicked result gets highlighted, and in our nomenclature, the result is selected. Selecting a part or result enables windows and controls which either change the item's properties or provide related additional functionality.

  4. In this case, user can observe that, selecting a result enabled the “Instance List” window. A result can have values at multiple instances such as multiple load cases, mode shapes, iterations etc. The “Instance List” displays the list of instances for which the result is available. In this case, all the instances of Displacement are checked. The unneeded instances can be filtered out by unchecking them.

  5. Multiple item selection/check functionality: VMoveCAE provides tools to check/select multiple items in an easier way using the selection toolbar. The selection toolbar consists of the following controls/tools.
    • Tree selection
    • Items selection
    • Multi-selection tool
    • Multi-check tool

    These controls/tools are shown as annotated items in the following diagram. The following steps explain how to use these tools and controls for selecting, deselecting, checking or unchecking multiple items.

  6. Select/deselect all parts: To select all parts, set the tree choice to “Geometry” and item choice to “All” and click on “Select Multiple” tool.

    This will select all the parts in the part list and changes the “Select Multiple” tool status as toggled as shown in the following diagram. Click on “Select Multiple” tool again to untoggle it and deselect all the parts.

  8. Select/deselect all instances: Now click on “Displacement” to enable the “Instance List” window. Set the tree choice to “Instances” and click on “Select Multiple” tool.

    This action selects all the instances as shown in the following diagram. Clicking it again deselects all the instances.

  10. Invert check status: Uncheck some results. In the following diagram, “Velocity”, “Bottom Section Stress (Centroidal)” and “Stress and Moment Resultant” are unchecked.

  11. Now change the tree choice to “Results” and item choice to “Inverted” and click “Check Multiple” tool. This will invert the check status of all the results as shown in the following diagram.

  12. Checking/unchecking selected items: Select some results. In the following diagram, “Displacement”, “Acceleration”, “Bottom Section Stress (Centroidal)”, “Stress and Moment Resultant” and “Strain Energy” are selected.

  13. Now change the item choice to “Selected” and click on “Check Multiple” tool. The “Check Multiple” tool which is toggled earlier now changes its state to untoggled. The checked results (“Bottom Section Stress (Centroidal)” and “Stress and Moment Resultant”) among the selected now gets unchecked. The check status of unchecked items among the selected as well as the deselected items remain unaltered.

  14. Save CAX: Many complex multiple selection and check operations can be performed on the similar lines. Once the required items are checked, user can create the CAX file as described in the previous tutorial
